This picture is my favorite of all the ones I made of the Santa Catarina Arch in Antigua – an icon in the town. It looks great at twilight with the lights shining on it and deep blue of twilight in the sky; but there are always people walking on the street so you need to do very long exposures to eliminate most of them. Even then, someone always stands still long enough and when they are wearing a white t-shirt it’s a nightmare to get a good picture! But in the morning, even though the lights are off, you can make some pretty nice images – if you’ve had rain the night before, and if the morning sun peeks through the clouds over the volcanoes and lights up the bldg. That happened this morning – and the puddle was big enough to be useful for this detail. Sometimes the essence is not in the reality of the scene but an impression of it…
Off to Alaska in the morning to lead our Glacier Bay Nat’l Park photograph boat tour. Won’t have internet on the boat, except for a one or two spots, will try to post during those times if possible…

Thanks everyone! I’m just getting caught up on blog stuff now that I am back from Alaska, too! @kristi- it was so great to spend time on the boat with you again. Can’t wait to see final pics when we all get them edited!
I love this one. It stays in my mind’s eye.
A stunning image. A one frame advertisement to go there. Great work Brenda.
Very nice. I just love capturing reflections of iconic structures in water. The puddles with it’s cobblestone structure really adds a lot of interest. I’ve noticed the same type of shooting opportunities in New Orleans French Quarter. Early in the AM they wash all the streets leaving very nice puddles to shoot reflections before the masses wake from their hangovers from the night before. Keep up the awesome work!
Jeff
Stunning reflections. The cobble stone looks amazing too. Good eye.
