Antigua was virtually destroyed in an earthquake back in the 1600s; so many of the churches came crumbling down;they lie in ruins now, fascinating ruins that in many cases are still used as churches -those with roofs on them. but the ornate façades are long gone – except for the main cathedral which has a restored front. I created three exposures for this scene and blended them using Nik’s HDR Efex Pro. I knew the car trails would be moving in each exposure but that only added interest, not a problem, to the results. It was a stormy night and the clouds really came out great in the final result. Our first four days were cloudy/rainy afternoons, typically of rainy season, but that provided us with different photo opportunities such as wet cobblestones and puddles.
Yes, it’s the main church in Antigua on the square – the facade was restored but the back of the church is still a crumbly mess on the outside. Still functioning as a church though!
Really nice photograph… It brings back memories for me… If I’m not mistaken this cathedral is at the central market/park.
Thanks for the memories!
