Jack Dykinga once said: “Cameras and lenses are simply tools to place our unique vision on film. Concentrate on equipment and you’ll take technically good photographs. Concentrate on seeing the light’s magic colors and your images will stir the soul.”
At this time of year when it’s easy to lust after new photo gear and gizmos, it’s important to remember the above quote. We can all do so much with the equipment we have – and a fresh vision and appreciation for all that is around us. With a wish for great light and magic in your life…Enjoy!
Hi Brenda,
I read this as I was dreaming about a new camera, thinking that my money would be better spent on other things and that I could still use my current camera for some time to come….
That post was an uncanny, but timely confirmation of those thoughts!
Thanks for such a great blog!

You are so welcome, Greg! Glad to have helped. 🙂
Beautiful light and a great reminder.
I like to think the most important photo equipment is behind our eyes and between our ears. Of course, I also lust after the new gizmos.
YES, Richard! I would add to that our soul/heart. But I must confess, I lust after a few gizmos – ahem, tools – now and then myself 🙂
Very nicely done.
Thanks, Ken!
Well seen, Brenda. Light like this is what to lust for.
Yes, indeed we do lust after it. Don’t know if you’re aware that this only happens for about two weeks each year and you need to have a) water flowing and b) sunset with good color! From ’round Valentine’s day to the end of February. So it’s a special event to witness and capture.
Beautiful light here! Thank you for the quote….a good reminder.
You’re very welcome, Nancy! I just loved this statement when I heard it.
