Today was a very busy day on the farm. My job was slicing cucumbers and onions to make bread and butter pickles. But first, a yummy breakfast of blueberry pancakes with the blubes we picked on Tuesday – oh, so good. As I was cleaning the table off on the porch, I turned and saw this scene of my sister’s 18 yr-old cat. Just sitting pretty, in the warm sunlight. What struck me was the shadow of the cat. But the porch windows created great angled shadows, too, which framed the scene nicely. It was all about the light for this picture. With a little view to the outside and a pot of flowers, it said ‘country porch’ to me and expressed the feeling of what it’s like to bask in the warm morning sun. Oh, to be a cat or dog on a day like this!!
The image was minimally processed in Lightroom. No time to do more, I’m beat and up with the sun and the roosters tomorrow again…
Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now. Keep it up!
And according to this article, I totally agree with your opinion, but only this time! 🙂

Cute kitty!
How’s Iceland shaping up, kiddo?
Thanks, Tony – I know you love kitties…she’s an old girl but still hanging around and relatively healthy and agile, amazingly.
I’ll chat offline about the other.
Hi Brenda … long time no see … 😉 Well I sure like this image … love the cats btw … had a white one and now I do have a black one … both Perzians cats … like the one in the image … nice shot of course and yes it’s all about the light … like the pink flowers in the background and the diagonal lines … they gave me such a strong impact for the image value in general ..
Well wish you all best and see you when you will be around and vice versa … 😉
Best from Slovenia,
Rok
Hi Rok – nice to hear from you! It’s so hard to keep in touch with everyone these days, isn’t it? We’ve expanded our ‘friends’ globally and the list has grown out of proportion with what any of us can manage in terms of contact… thanks for your comments and I hope you are doing well over there!
B.
Hi Brenda … I am doing fine … just working with photography … trying to finde out the best system for me … yes networking is important and positive for us photographers as for the people with which you can share your beautiful work … of corse there are other sites of the medal too … I am just trying to “filter” the contacts I personaly care and the contacts that are of other nature … the personal contacts are allways “biger” as I try to establishe a personal contact with a lot of people that I finde positive and interesting … the world is changing …
Stay positive and be good …
Best,
Rok
You’re welcome Debbie – glad to supply some memories for you! Yes, you should come to Maine – it’s really a lovely place, especially in July-October!! Lots of lakes, scenery, waterfalls, farms, small towns; I don’t have much use for it before then during bug season, ha ha, but I don’t have to live here at least so I get to pick when I come to visit!
Beautiful, Brenda! yes it is about the light and the cat, but what seals it for me is the touch of red in the upper left corner. Your photos of Maine take me back to simpler times with my grandmother. Thanks ….
They also make me want to visit Maine …
what’s a blube?
Hi Kalani – sorry for the ‘slang’ – blube stands for blueberries amidst some circles – sort of like shrooms for mushrooms.
But you remind me that I shouldn’t be so lazy to use slang in this blog – not everyone’s going to get it! Thanks,
B.
i figured it out after i posted. i now use “blube” and so does my mom. it was a dumb question but i couldnt delete the post. our mission is to make it popular. i never heard it before. im learning more then how to take better pictures from your blogs 🙂 go ahead wich yo bad self girlfriend!! don’t stop!!
Nice shot! So, do you just keep a cameral in your pocket or slung over your shoulder all the time? I never go anywhere without at least my SD980 point & shoot.
I’ve enjoyed your books and now your website.
Cheers,
Carl
Heh, Carl. Yes, I do keep my camera with me even while working in the garden or barn this week. I try to carry it with me everywhere even when not traveling. It’s hard sometimes with the EOS 1DS MK III – an anchor – but if nothing else, I’ll use my Canon G9 compact digital to capture those unexpected moments – it’s easier to have with me all the time!
Thanks for your comments.
Great photo Brenda! I wish that I could be more descriptive, but everything about the photo makes me feel good. Its not the kind of photo that you look at then think thats nice and move on to something else quickly. I looked at the photo for quite some time, taking it all in and then came back and looked at the photo some more. I was able to take an enjoyable break from reality and actually get lost in the picture. It absolutely has to be a great photo to affect me that much!
You make the world a more pleasant place to live with your photography. Thank you for seeing the beauty in that moment in time capturing it with your camera for posterity and sharing it with everyone.

Oh, Bill – thank you! – for these nice words and thoughts. You did express things perfectly about the photo. It’s not always easy to put things into words, but the fact that it kept bringing you back means something ‘worked’ for this photo. It gives me great pleasure to know my images can impact people like this. 🙂
Sunlight is how I finally got my kitty to sit long enough for her portrait too. She loves to follow it through the house from bedroom, to living room, to kitchen.
If I could be something other than human, it would be a cat in sunlight or a dog on the beach.
Thanks for all the pixs…
Karen
Thanks, Karen! It’s true, Charlotte moves from room to room, chair to pillow, seeking the warm sun. I think they know something we don’t – but we have to lie there with sunblock on – lol!
