A howling wind
Over the pounding waves
An eagle soars.

There was an eagle – really – only it didn’t fly over my shoreline landscape! But poetry allows creative license…
I had never seen waves so strong on a LAKE before. I felt as if I were standing by the ocean, and I was told “this isn’t anything – it could be worse!” I can only imagine – we had 35-40 mph winds as I recall, and thankfully, that made for some great wave action – if you could stand up and hold your tripod steady. Luckily, rocks don’t move in the wind, and I wanted the water to move, so it worked out in the end.
I’m looking forward to the opportunity to go back there again some Autumn. It’s really a beautiful area.

I’ve been along the south shore of Lake Superior on days like that. There are visible ship wrecks in some places. It’s a pretty unfriendly place when the wind and waves are coming in like that – but a great place to make photographs like this one. Great job!
Thanks, Mike. Yes, I can only imagine what it’s like in a REAL storm – the legends of shipwrecks tell us…
